Spending time with our girls and kids

Woodland Pastured Goats

I love finding time to spend with our girls and kids. At this point we just have the two Kids. Although we are still expecting more!

This video shows their Woodland Pasture, we practice Silvopasture techniques here at Briden Farm. Creating Woodland Pastures, or pasturing animals under trees.

On the 6th of July, our Nigerian Dwarf Goat Doe, Nanna, freshened and gave birth to Terry and Romeo. A little Doeling and a little Buckling. You’ll see how they’re progressing in this video. They’re doing great, been eating grain, hay, grass, shrubs, bark, and so on, since they were just weeks old. Nanna still nurses them, but has them pretty nearly weaned.

Our other three Girls, Saanen Goats, spent six weeks with a small young Saanen Buck for six weeks in February and March.

The gestation period for Goats, the period from the time a doe is bred till she freshens (gives birth) is about 145-155 days. The little Buck we had breed our Saanen Does was here till March 27th. So, any kids being born, should happen by August 29th. Although most Goats average 150 days, so we hope to have all three Does giving birth within the next two weeks. Although I still find it difficult to tell exactly when… kind of like the Second Coming! We may know the signs and the season, but only the good Lord himself knows the hour! 😉

Now would be a great time to book a Farm Tour to see our babies, goats, bunnies, chicks, and more!

Well, not gone, but spoken for! Unfortunately due to Covid and Travel Restrictions that deal fell through. So, once again these two darling boys are looking for a new home. For more information please call 902-907-0770.

On the 29th of March, 2021, Nanna gave birth to two healthy baby boys! Two little Bucklings. These boys are looking for forever homes and will be ready to go around the first of June. We’d prefer that their new owners decide if they stay intact, or become wethers, so if You’d like them, or one of them, please let us know as soon as possible. Laying Out New Pasture At Briden Farm

Fencing New Pasture

This photo, or should I say this amalgamation of three photos shows the appropriate layout of the new pasture for our Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Or at least the Does, Snow White, Momma, and Nanna!

Till now, they’ve enjoyed having their Pasture on the Hillside in two rotational areas. However those have been quite well browsed upon and the simple fact is the Goats are bored of that area. when they get bored, they get out of the pasture. The simple truth is we don’t have a lot of great fencing! However, we’re blessed because, although the Girls could get out anytime, they only escape when they get bored!

So the new area will provide them at least a few weeks of entertainment and also some fresh new browse. It’s mostly flat ground directly behind the house and while smaller, only about 40 x 70’ it’ll provide an easy to watch, gentler area for the time Nanna and Momma move into their Kidding season. Nanna is due the end of March and Momma the first of May.

It also can be expanded to the Hillside on an untouched area with another approximate 80×80’ Square. So, for the next three weeks or so, till Momma freshens (gives birth to her kids), we’ll leave them in the smaller pasture.

Once she  freshens we’ll expand it while she’s spending time inside with her kids. We’ll make it so it can be split in two. So when Nanna comes out with her kids they can be in the first section and Momma and Snow White can be in the Hillside area. That is till Momma freshens the first of May, then we’ll rotate it.
