Hens the Size of Pigs at Briden Farm

Hens the Size of Pigs

Yes, we got 25 new Hens today!

I just didn’t expect them to be as big as the three Pigs!

Yes, we got both Hens and Pigs today,

I see Eggs & Bacon in our future.

I remember hearing a Sermon once about commitment, and how you know when someone is truly, totally, wholeheartedly committed. In terms of a Ham & Eggs Breakfast, the Hen makes a commitment, but the Pig is wholeheartedly committed!

Not sure it was part of the Sermon, but that Pig really put his, um… (ok, I’ll be nice!) Butt on the Line!

If you want to put Your Butt on thenLine come visit us at Briden Farm!

Head Cheese at Briden Farm

Pork Terrine

You know, The Head Cheese At Briden Farm, is totally different than the Cheese Head at Briden Farm… and I should know! (Chuckle)

Now, if You ask people if they like Head Cheese they probably make a funny face and their eyes roll back in their Heads! Most people are turned off by the name! Thus Head Cheese gets a bad wrap!

Now, for just a moment, imagine that we’ve not mentioned Head Cheese! Imagine the Title is Pork Terrine At Briden Farm.

Now, that would have a totally different flavour wouldn’t it! Right?

Delighted Cooking describes Head cheese as “not actually cheese, but a jellied meat dish … which typically takes the form of a large sausage and is served sliced as a cold cut. Alternatively, it may be made in a mold or pan and served as a terrine” which is described as “a French meat loaf dish made with ground or finely chopped meat and served at room temperature”.

Now that’s something you can sink your teeth into! Right?

Thanks to our friend Karen, so can We! Right here at Briden Farm! If You’d like to try it, come visit!

Or… if you’re really adventurous…

Homemade Pasta & Woodland Pasture Raised Pork

Homemade Pasta and Woodland Pasture Raised Pork

I love it when a good meal comes together almost as much as I love our becoming more and more self sufficient here at Briden Farm. Imagine sitting down to a supper of Homemade Pasta & Woodland Pasture Raised Pork that you’ve made and raised!

The photo above is exactly that! We milk our Goats for the milk, and then make butter! The left over part of making butter is Butter Milk and that’s what I use to cook our Berkshire woodland pastured, oven baked, pork chops!

The pasta, I made a week or so ago, and dried it for ready use and yesterday I cooked it in the Whey, which was left over from making cheese from our Goat Milk! Not only had I added oregano and basil, both from Watkins, to the egg, flour, and olive oil when I made the pasta, but also added a bit more to the whey when I cooked the pasta! So you just know that has to be good!

As you can tell… I love to play with my food and using Watkins Products makes that so much fun! (Learn More)
