Celebrating Easter? With Pork?

Ethically Raised, Woodland Pastured, Pork Roast

To some it might seem strange for me to be posting about Pork on Good Friday! Right?

Well, while the Old Testament Law seemed to forbid it, there are several places the New Testament’s teachings say that it’s not what goes in the mouth, but what co es out of it, the defiles a man (See Mark 7:15)  and Act 10: 9-16 where Peter was told to Kill and Eat. I like that one!

Of course I do! I’m a carnivore, or at least an omnivorous monster with a hankering for a gold piece of Ethically Raised, Heritage Pork, raised with no chemicals nor antibiotics, etc. Pure, Natural, Goodness! If You’re still worried, ask God to Bless it! That’s what we say the Blessing!

So, now that, that’s out of the way! Give us a call ☎️ 902-907-0770

The Mangalica (also spelled Mangalitsa or Mangalitza) is a Hungarian breed of pig, prized for its incredible Pork! Acorn Bluff describes it like this…

Mangalitsa hogs are bred and raised for flavor and great tasting meat (we at Acorn Bluff especially love pork chops and bacon from our hogs near Iowa City). They are raised in the traditional manner, and brought to market often through artisan butchers. This combination of techniques explains why Mangalitsa pork is more expensive, but also why it is oh so worth it. Mangalitsa is considered to be the world’s best tasting pork

The Berkshire Pig is a British breed of pig. It originated in the English county of Berkshire, for which it is named. It is normally black, with some white.
Nicolosi Fine Foods describes it as …

A heritage breed pig. With a long history that goes back some 300 years in England, this black-and-white pig is highly regarded for juicy, tender, and flavorful pork which is heavily marbled with fat.

Mmm, Mmm, Good!

Now, imagine what would happen if You combined the two!

Juicy, Marbled, and Beautiful Fat adds Flavour!

Wait! What? Fat! Isn’t Dat Fat Bat For You!?

Fat from Woodland Pastured Pork is, according to Hampshire.edu

Less saturated fat, more heart-healthy polyunsaturated fats Studies show the nutritional value of pork from pastured pigs that consume grass and forage is higher than pork from conventionally-raised pigs.

Our, Briden Farm Pigs produce pork that is an incredible combination of both Mangalica and Berkshire and is ethically raised, given the best possible life, except for that one bad moment! We allow our Pigs to express their Piginess on a combination of Woodland and Grass Pastures where they are regularly moved to new ground on a regular basis. Generally moving to a new “salad bar” every week to two weeks! Freshness, Happiness, and a blend of healthy pastures and outstanding goodness, in both the life of the Pigs, and the Pork!

Look at the Colour, Imagine the Sweetness, and Taste the Goodness!

Rendered Lard

One of the side products that comes from processing Pork from Pigs is the fat! Using that Pork Fat to make Lard, or Render Lard, as it’s called, is very rewarding! While you may think it’s unhealthy…

Alton Brown, host of the Iron Chef, may disagree!

In fact Prevention.com says…

“While there are a few dissenters in the ranks, most of the experts we spoke with say lard doesn’t deserve its bad rap—and can actually be a healthier fat than other options, especially for some kinds of cooking.”

The Site Hampshire.edu goes deeper into what some of the healthy benefits are…

“Compared to conventionally-raised pork, pasture-raised pork has:

2.4x more omega-3 fats

60% lower omega-6: omega-3 ratio

1.3x higher poly- unsaturated: saturated fats

8% higher protein

2x more vitamin E “

So, by now you may be asking, but what about Crisco?
really glad you asked… Read TheConversation.com

Anyway, suffice to say, the Taste alone that comes from Foods, especially Baked Goods, made from Lard, especially Lard rendered from Woodland Pastured Berkshire Pigs like we have here at Briden Farm, is incredible!
