Brian Hurlburt’s FaceBook Profile states he’s an Old Goat & Chicken Chaser at Briden Farm, so who are we to argue! Brian is the “Bri” of Briden Farm.

Does and Kids at Play

Does and Kids at Play

Why is it that as soon as you grab the camera the best shots stop!? Actually this short little video is of our three Does, Eve, Buttercup, Nanna, and Nanna’s two Nigerian Dwarf Goat Bucklings, Robbie & Nicky. Eve is an 11 year old Saanen Dairy Milking Goat, and Buttercup, who I like to call Oreo, is a Saanen/ Alpine mix. It’s nice to see them playing, we’ve switched things up lately and it’s good to see them all settled and getting along.

Unsuccessfully Unloading Pigs At Briden Farm

Tom & Jerry

Recently we got pigs at Briden Farm, we’ve never raised pigs before, they are a mix of Berkshire and Tamworth. This Video shows us trying to coax our new Pigs, Tom & Jerry, off the Truck!

Apparently they liked their ride home! So we’re not eager to unload when we first got them home to #BridenFarm.

Since this is actually our first time ever handling Pigs, we were somewhere between apprehensive and excited and I think the Pigs picked up on that! As a result, and because They enjoyed the ride Home so much, You won’t even get to see the Pigs in this video, but it’s pretty funny, and we think you’ll get a chuckle out of the antics! Ours, not theirs! To actually see the Pigs, you’ll want to watch our next video, Training the Pigs to eat from Their New Trough

Now, when we picked up the Pigs, They warned us not to chase them! If they get loose, but to just wait and lure them with food. So, when one of them escaped off the truck, and disappeared for a few minutes, we waited and took time to set up a little temporary fence along the path he took to escape! Then when he returned we tempted him with food and when we got him close to the path, he picked up his scent, and probably his brother’s scent, and went right back in the way he come out! Except that instead of going back on the truck, he followed his brother’s scent and followed him in to their new pasture. Which by the way is where the Bucks and Ducks used to be, and now the Pigs are housed in their pasture, and are living in the old Buck Pen! Don’t worry though… we still have the Bucks, and the Ducks, and they too have new pastures!

More on that in a future video!

New Goats at Briden Farm

New Goats at Briden Farm

We have New Goats at Briden Farm! We are also missing two! Momma and Snow White! Now they’re not really missing, but they’ve moved on to greener pastures! Well, not really, well… maybe! Actually they’re not to faraway, but they do have a new home over on Waldeck Line! We worked out a deal with a friend who loves them and will provide a good home for them. It also will allow us to visit.

The deal with our friend also meant our getting a new Goat, Buttercup (who I really think is more of an Oreo!) Here’s a video of Buttercup, a Saanen / Alpine Mix, playing with Nanna’s Kids, and Eve, our new Saanen Milking Goat, and Nanna, our Nigerian Dwarf Goat, the mother of the two little kids.

It’s a short video, but we think you’ll like it as it captures some of the Fun here at Briden Farm.

A Crazy, Busy, Spring at Briden Farm!

10 Crazy Busy Weeks

Now, I know that our closest friends and supporters know that we’re always crazy! Lately though, especially over the past seven weeks, it’s been crazy busy!

On the 22 February we had eggs hatching in our incubator and we had been tending them for three weeks prior! So really, I guess it’s actually been more like 10 weeks of Crazy Busy here at #BridenFarm

Soon after the Chicks hatching, we began gathering Sap and Making Maple Syrup! That of course kept us busy for a few weeks! We kept it small, mainly just for us, as this was our first Maple Syrup Season in a few years!

Then, by the end of March, Nanna had her Kids! Kidding Season is a fun, but stressful time of year with its own set of demands. So, March just flew by, and now we’re mid April!

The past week and a half we’ve been hauling 200 mink cages home to disassemble and use the wire for Fencing! It should be enough to fence about two acre as of pasture land.

Oh, and somewhere in there, a friend suggested we suggest Chicken TV at Briden Farm as a series for Eastlink’s Community TV. To which we did have a reply! Now, it’s not for a Series, not yet anyway, but Michael MacDonald, producer with Eastlink Community TV did contact us and come out to do a feature on us for East Link Magazine! (Air Date TBA).

Now, most recently we’ve made some changes, buying selling, and swapping out some of our livestock, details of which are to involved to list now, but we will cover it all in future Blog Posts! We do have some exciting new additions and we’ll tell You about them in upcoming Blog Posts!
