Home Fried Potatoes, Wild Field Mushrooms, and Steaks

it’s so nice when we reap the bounty of our hard work. The Potatoes are those we grew in Clementsport before moving here to start Briden Farm. The Wild Field Mushrooms were gathered by a friend and I this summer on his Farm. The Steak was from a Bull that attacked a friend on his farm, where I helped out this summer. Of course the whole thing was made using Watkins Products! Things like Watkins Pepper, Garlic Powder, Sea Salt, and other herbs and spices also from Watkins. We love their products.

New Hen Lays 8 Eggs in 9 Days

When a Pullet, a young hen, begins to lay she often misses days and her eggs are usually small and grow larger over time. Our new Brahma mix hen has now laid 8 Eggs in Her first 9 Days of laying! Some Hen!

New Hen Lays 8 Eggs in 9 Days
Her eggs are getting bigger, and are nearly as big as a Large White Store Bought Egg! You can see by the picture that the eggs are getting bigger too! My guess is she’ll be laying Jumbos before long!

Preparing for Winter with a Snow Blower

Our first Snowblower at Briden Farm

When you’re living off grid, or in an isolated area, being properly prepared for Winter can mean the difference between success and failure. Proper preparations mean survival and when you’re in a remote area it can mean survival.

Now, it’s not like we’re super isolated, but we are a 1/4 mile, or about 400 Meters, up a laneway that is an old Declassified Government Road. So it no longer gets upkeep, or plowing, from the Government. Thus we’re on our own when it come to that!

We had someone’s lined up to do our plowing, and he has had other obligations come up and won’t be able to do it! So, rather than being beholden to someone else, we’ve bought a used Snowblower and plan to do it ourselves! It should be interesting!
