A Balmy Rainy February Night

A Balmy Rainy February Night

It’s a beautiful night, as I walk to the door, and open it as the refreshing rain hits my body it’s invigorating! The experience fills my whole being with thankfulness! Why?

It’s February and it’s over 10 Degrees Celsius outside at 4:30am. It’s over 18 inside and the Wood Stove has been out for hours and the furnace is turned down low.

The mountain of snow in melting quickly and our mountain home is showing signs of Spring!

I know there will be more snow, after this, we still have a month or so of Winter weather to come, but this is a promise of things to come and for me it’s exhilarating.

See, while I try to put on a happy face and put forth a positive attitude it’s really hard this time of year! Although this time of year is one of my favourite times of year! That’s because there’s now noticeable daylight after 6pm. Now, when these Plus Temperatures and melting snow just seem like the icing on top of the cake! 🍰

So, as I sit here, relaxing, and sipping my coffee, I feel the SAD effects, those of Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder slip away! It’s a disorder that affects many, yet sounds so lame! Although when I first heard of it, it made total sense! I’ve always suffered with depression, especially this time of Year! So, when the days start getting longer, the temps start getting higher, and the snow starts disappearing, my whole being rejoices! Maybe it’s my Mesoamerican DNA,

Anyway, for now, I’m going to leave my fears behind, and embrace, the fun, warmer temperatures, and rain here at Briden Farm! 😉

You May Think We’re Nuts

Ah Nits Flying Squirrels

So, we know some of You probably think we’re Nuts!

Somedays, We think You might be right!

Seems the Squirrels even confirm it!

We have a section of ceiling where the tiles have started to come down! Actually we have it on good authority, it started to come down about 60 Years Ago!

Last Night this little guy, a Flying Squirrel, come peeking out, and then decided that tile had been hanging there long enough! He made it fall, but, thankfully only the one tile fell! So, the others might just hang there till another Squirrel decides to come in and use our ceiling as it’s trampoline!

What ensued was interesting, with the dogs a little to interested in getting rid of the Squirrel. Actually, as you can see in this video, it really turned things upside down…

You’ll be happy to know the Dogs, much to their dismay, didn’t kill the Squirrel. I managed to catch it, took it outside, and the dogs chased it up the hill, up a tree, and then it flew! Actually glided away and took off towards Morganville!

If You’re nuts like us, come visit us at Briden Farm! You never know what we’re up to!

Clean Your Stove and Chimney

So,You’ve got your Homestead, perhaps a few hens, goats, pigs, ducks (we have Muscovy Ducks), and a few others things to tend to! Those things warm the cockles of the heart. One of the other things, that warms the hearth is your fireplace, or Wood Stove, and Chimney! It’s those things that I’m a talkin about today! Sorry to be waxing poetic, but I’ll be after watching the movie Wild Mountain Thyme. A good yarn it is to be sure!

Anyway, it’s that time of year, when the Fireplace, or Woodstove, and Chimney need a good cleaning! Yes, that’s right, right now in the middle of the Winter! The creosote has been building up, and it’s a good idea to take and do it on a warmer of the days. It’s a good precaution to be taking for sure! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

A good cleaning may just prevent a fire and save your home, and homestead. From our Home to Yours, we wish Ye a safe and blessed Winter and know that it’s now less than 55 Days till Spring! That’s a Blessed thing to be sure!

Now, You should know that if Ye be clicking the links on this website it might be earning me a small pittance! Although if Ye shall watch the movie Wild Mountain Thyme.the heart warming entertainment You’ll receive be far more valuable than any pittance that might come my way! It rivals that of a visit to Briden Farm! If Ye be not believing me, do both, and Ye be the judge!
