The Wizard of Oz Inspires Me

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Somethings are timeless, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written over 120 years ago and it is still being read today! It holds stories within stories, the original Book had not only wonderful stories it also had beautiful pictures and some of the most fantastical characters ever portrayed, but it also teaches many lessons for living life! Those are just a few of the reasons I enjoy it so and have been reading it out loud for the past three months or so.

Another reason is, I simply love Reading Out Loud! Plus, it is one of the stories my Mom read to me when I was a child. It’s a way for me to reconnect with my Mom, and honestly it’s probably the first story that ever instilled a love of nature and farming in me.

So, I hope You’ll enjoy our latest Podcast Episode over at …

Willow

We have a number of Cats at Briden Farm and on March 8, 2023 Willow had 8 beautiful Kittens. In a months time they’ll be looking for homes. Willow, their mother, and Oreo their Father, are both great cats and provide great rodent patrol and control for us here at Briden Farm, in Bear River, Nova Scotia.

Momma Pig, Lara, and all 8 Baby Piglets are doing well

It was quite a night, she was just 5 hours ahead of her due date, and she remained very calm and gentle throughout the 4-5 hour process. She was very gentle, with the babies and with me as I sat with her and as you can see in one of the Videos I was even patting her.

Lara with Her 8 Baby Piglets

This morning she was up and drank some water and when she went back to lay down she laid near the piglets and let them come to her. Well done Lara, well done!

Lara Soon To Be A Sow

It’s an exciting time at Briden Farm as our Gilt, female Pig, gets ready to Farrow (have babies) and become a Sow! One of the sure signs is when her body starts to show obvious signs of soon being able to feed her piglets…

Lara’s Body Preparing for Motherhood

Another she sign is when she builds her nest, which usually indicates the birthing will start within the next 12-24 hours. Just look at the beautiful nest she’s built…

Lara’s First Nest

I suspect by tomorrow morning we may have our first piglets and I also suspect this may be a sleepless night for Lara and I. I’ll do my best to keep You as up-to-date as things progress.
