Jack & The Girls

It’s been awhile, since we’ve done our last Chicken TV at Briden Farm, episode. It’s really become a “Thing” and people have been telling us how much they enjoy it!

So, I apologize it’s been so long, to say the least we’ve had our struggles, and have been very busy over the past couple of months with the coming of Spring and all that brings.

Actually, as of late, I’ve been wondering if perhaps we should broaden the focus a bit and change the name of “Chicken TV at Briden Farm”, to “Life at Briden Farm”? We’d be interested in hearing your feedback. Please post your comments below.

Livestock Help With Composting And Natural Fertilizers

We are gearing up for another Year of Gardening and we’re wondering how many of our local friends and supporters have left over fruits, vegetables, and other Compostable Wastes? Not only do we have a Compost Pile, but we also have a number of helpers, Chickens, Ducks, Rabbits, Goats, and Pigs, that all help in the process! Perhaps, if we get enough local support, we may even get to a point where we can help provide natural fertilizers back to the Community. For now, however, we’re simply asking for Your help! If You have left over fruit, vegetables, or other compostables, please contact us at #BridenFarm 902-907-0770

Tom & Jerry Tilling Our Garden at Briden Farm

Tom & Jerry Tilling Our Garden

Tom & Jerry arrived here, at Briden Farm, a week ago, and they’ve been busy tilling and fertilizing our proposed Garden plot. See, Tom & Jerry are our Berkshire Pigs, actually fixed, male, pigs are called Barrows, and these Barrows are doing a great job of fertilizing and tilling our garden. So, I guess, I should more accurately say Tom & Jerry are our Barrows! Hmmm… if they do this good a job tilling and fertilizing… can You imagine what would happen if we put Wheels on these Barrows!? 😉

Poor Man’s Fertilizer

Snow On The Mountain

The old folk taught that late Spring snow was poor man’s fertilizer. Science proves that as Snowflakes form and fall they absorb nitrates from the atmosphere and then release these nutrients into the soil as the snow melts. Then the plants utilize nitrate as an essential nutrient. Research confirms that nitrate improves water use efficiency and protects plants against heat and cold stress! Proving once again that those old folk sure know their stuff!
